Shisa Park

Have I explained the "Shisa Thing" to you?  I cannot remember if I have.  The Shisa Dog thing is a big deal here in Okinawa.  It is believed by Okinawans that Shisa dogs, as a pair - one male and one female - placed on either side of the entrance to your home, will ward off evil spirits and bring good fortune to your home and family. Or something like that.

You will see Shisas all over this island - big ones, small ones, porcelain, cement, what have you.  There are very large ones at many of the tourist areas and many photo opportunities with various shisa dogs here and there.  And, there is also the shisa dog park where you can climb around, up, through, and slide down this gigantic cement shisa dog.

This park has been on my to-do list for a long time now, but it is just. so. hot.  Finally, finally, finally, pretty much exactly on 1 October, you were able to notice an ever so slight temperature drop.  By slight I mean...probably 2 degrees.  But those two degrees helped, and instead of sweating immediately upon exiting your home now you've got a good 5-10 minutes before you start sweating.  Yay!

So I took advantage of the opportunity and finally took the kids to the shisa dog park.  As Wyatt said, "It was fun but it would have been cooler if it was bigger."   My kids are spoiled I tell you, SPOILED!  I told him, "Just be thankful that you get to go to parks; some kids don't get to go to parks at all."  To which he responded, "Who, mom? Who doesn't ever get to go to parks?"  I didn't have a very good answer to that one, so I huffed, "Well we don't know any of them, but there are some."

The cement slides were the most fun part.  The stairs inside were a little steep so I had to go up them with Olivia each time, and the one slide was way too steep for her but the other one was fine.  The cement slides here are painted cement, which means they go VERY fast - like so fast that I am even  afraid to go down them sometimes!  But Wyatt thinks they're "super cool."  *Sigh.* I guess I'm not as 'down with the lingo' as I need to be...

Wow, that parks looks A-mazing! Starting to think less of all these lame "safe" US parks with the safety plaques telling you what age you have to be to play on them ;)

Morning Meg..cute post, you're kids are so verbally cute!!. Sure sound like a few family kids here in the USA.
Wish you were closer...Wyatt could help Grandpa with his new remote!!
This week they are doing better with their NEW electronic devices.
It must really suck to get old.
50 MPH winds again Fri and it is so dry there have been field fires everyday for a week. It is scary, out of control fires, a few people with injuries and near Corwith a young man couldn't see to get out of the field, ended up in a ditch with an overturn.
I just PRAY a LOT during harvest, Fuzz works a lone and I run him to and from fields moving equipment. Glad he's a "SMALL" time farmer.
Men with all these huge acres are insane or greedy.
Have a wonderful week. Enjoy your weather. A few more here and it will be flurries. It's been a wonderful warm fall.
Do you have Pumpkins there? Anamosa's big pumpkin was 1480 lbs or so from Minnesota.
Hug the kids, and keep posting, always love to here from you.
