We play once a month and rotate houses. Our theme this past Friday night was Kentucky Derby Bunco so we all dressed up Derby style. The food was all Derby food (southern style recipes) as well and we had a great time admiring everyone's outfits and hats!
Last month it was Mardi Gras Bunco and we all had masks and beads and mardi gras food - the absolute BEST gumbo I've ever had - and we had such a great time! My mom was here for this one and she had a good time playing with us!
I am hosting Bunco in June and I am still debating on my theme. I can't think of a fun theme that has a dress-up component and special food & drinks that would go with the theme. Since it's in June, I was thinking of hosting a Typhoon party (these are popular in Oki since we have so many typhoons) - which would mean candlelight instead of lights (no electricity during typhoons), and I could serve the Typhoon drink to go with, along with dressing up in pajamas... but can't think of food that would go with it - I don't want to serve Doritos!! :) I'm also considering an 80's party (but again, the food is an issue) or a June "wedding" theme and having everyone wear their worst bridesmaid dress. Which theme do you like? Or - do you have another fun one I could use?

LOOOVE the bridesmaid idea...because you know everyone has one of those dresses in their closet! And then you could go wedding food, appetizers, BIG cake. Like the typhoon theme too...since they are a "tropical" storm could you go with tropical foods. Kebobs, grilled pineapple, appetizers with sweet and sour dips etc. Can't wait to see what you come up with!!
I totally was thinking wedding theme as soon as I read June! You can have lots of fun with that one!! This looks like a nice monthly night out for you. I've never played BUNCO but it sounds like a good time.
Looks so fun..I know your mom talked of having a great time and she loved the GUMBO.
By June you'll have it all figured out. I am so hungary right now, I don't think I'd have near the idea I should share with you.
So cold here yet. But had lots of sunshine.. Hope your weather stays void of WICKED weather. I just heard Japan had ANOTHER earthquake. J is in the Phillipnes til the 8th. I keep praying...
I thought of the wedding theme right away, but thought....no one would have their wedding dress in Okinawa with them...but the bridesmaid dress, maybe??? Rissy Roo's idea for tropical food would work great for the Typhoon theme. It WAS really a fun night..Bunco is so easy to learn also. I love the latest pictures...hot looking chicks...maybe I should get a couple big hats....
I don't think anyone will have thier "worst" bridesmaid dress (because why drag that to Oki given our weight limit)...but they might have an old ball dress or can probably find one at a thrift store! So now I'm torn... bridesmaid or typhoon??? Leaning toward bridesmaid but love Rissy's idea for tropical food so I can't decide!
