Where In the World Is....

Carmen SanDiego? Anyone remember that show? PBS? Ring a bell? Good show! However, now I feel like it is my life. Soon we will need to put in our "preferences" of where we'd like to live next. What a daunting task - "You can live anywhere in the world. Where to?"

They do help you out a little bit. They have you rank (in order) the following areas: East Coast, West Coast, and Overseas. So really you are just saying in general where you'd like to go. It's not guaranteed, but they do try to match your preference with the needs of the Marine Corps. It's a tough decision, and we'd like your input. There's a poll in the margin and we'd like you to vote (once only, please). Where would you like to see the Parkers move next?

East Coast = most likely either South Carolina, North Carolina, or Virginia
West Coast = most likely California (29 Palms desert town or SanDiego area)
Overseas = most likely Okinawa, Japan (island) or (less likely) Hawaii

A little info to help you in your decision making, in chronological order:
- Tommy lived overseas in London for 1 1/2 years (and I temporarily for 3 months, where we met)
- We lived on the west coast (California/Arizona) for 2-3 years
- We lived on the east coast (D.C.,Virginia & Maryland) for 3 years
- We lived in Iowa for 3 1/2 years
- Currently living in Virginia for the next 4-10 months

Also, things to consider, in no particular order:
- Tommy's family lives in Virginia
- My brother & his family live in California
- We have friends in all locations

Happy Voting!!! And be sure to leave a comment explaining how you voted!

I can not vote for you because I do not like any of the selections. BUT if I had to vote it would either be one of the East or West coast choices, as I could never come visit you overseas. I barely do well enough to fly across the US let alone a sea. I know this is a very big decision for you guys and I pray/know where ever you go you will be happy! Always- Robin

Do I really have to explain my vote??? Of course I voted for overseas, because life in Okinawa is nothing short of a tropical paradise! Although, Robin makes a good point, living overseas does make it tough for family and friends to visit. My second choice is west coast, because I'm guessing my favorite L.T. will lobby pretty hard for CA as our next duty station. But, I followed your directions and only voted once.

Since Iowa isn't a choice, I of course voted for Japan because I think it's a perfect opportunity for you to spend time with Kyle & Jen - and if you're going to have to go sometime - it would be better for Wyatt if you went while he's still very young. Now, hopefully I won't receive hate mail from any of your relatives. ha ha!! Kim

I'm with Robin and don't think I can vote. I started out with thinking West Coast beings Ian is there and we could be with both kids in one trip.
Then I thought, well if the Midwest can't be an option (and I don't even think it should be as it is -9 degrees right now and -30 wind chill)I'd rather have you be close to Tommy's family instead of by no one's family and it's a nice place to visit.
Third option of overseas ...well, we'd visit once or twice I'm sure, but three years is a LONG time. Now would be the time to go, with little Wyatt not being in school yet, but did I mention 3 years is a LONG time and you know it's FAR FAR away, right? What a great opportunity though to see more of the world and Jen says its a tropical paradise...that sounds good, but maybe that's because of the -9 thing.
If you choose West Coast I may just have to retire early and at least spend winters there...hum...now that sounds like I'm on to something!! OK, my vote is for the West Coast...

P.S. -- Good luck in your decision, because it really IS your decision, and you both have been REALLY good at making good decisions all these years. You know we'll be there for you in whatever you decide!! Love you....Mom McG
